Beef-cake Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and heartthrob Zac Efron will star in the new “Baywatch” remake. The “Baywatch” remake will appear in theaters instead of on our televisions. The pair will hopefully put on those unforgettable red trunks and run in slow motion across the big screen.

Johnson tweeted at Efron and welcomed him to the cast. He also teased us by describing the tone of the movie. He tweets that the movie is “big, fun, and RATED R…Like me when I drink.” There is also a mentions of baby oil and a “shirtless heaven”, which I’m sure no one will object to.

The film version of “Baywatch” is expected to be similar to the “21 Jump Street” films, in regards to its R-rated comedy. Johnson, will play a strict, by the book lifeguard who is forced to work with a young, rule breaking newbie, played by Efron. The two will become a team after their beloved beach is threatened by an evil oil tycoon.

The original Baywatch television show aired for 12 years, between 1989 and 2001. Iconic stars such as David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson starred in the classic show and there are hopes that they will make a cameo in the new version. There is no word yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they made an appearance.

Efron has been on a roll lately and his new film, We Are Your Friends, will be in theaters on August 28th. The film follows a hung man named Cole, played by Efron, as he faces challenges on his climb to become a well-known music producer in the electronic dance music scene. Efron is known for showing his chiseled body in films, so this will just be another film he can add to his “I got half-naked” resume. Johnson has also been saving lives in his recent summer feature, San Andreas. And let’s not forget about his role in Fast and Furious. He is also one of the top earning stars in Hollywood. Very impressive, I must say. Efron and Johnson are bringing a massive amount of star power to the film.

Seth Gordon, director of Horrible Bosses, will direct the feature film and they are shooting for a 2016 release. Are you excited to see “Baywatch”?
