The Zac Brown Band is one of the most acclaimed country music bands of their time. Though the band has spent a lot of time in the spotlight, there are still some things that many people do not know about them. With that in mind, here PPcorn present a list of 15 facts you probably didn’t know about the Zac Brown Band.
Number Fifteen: Zac Brown Has 11 Siblings
It’s true. Lead singer Zac Brown is actually the 11th of 12 total children.
Number Fourteen: He Is a Georgia Man
Brown was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised by both his mother and step-father, but he was not raised in Atlanta. He was raised near Lake Lanier, Georgia.
Number Thirteen: He Started His Own Label
In 2003, Brown created Home Grown. Though it is called Southern Ground today, the label still stands. The name was changed for legal purposes.
Number Twelve: His Step-Dad Had an Interesting Profession
Brown’s step-father, the man who raised him, was actually a dentist! We bet he has some nice teeth because of that. His step-father was a dentist in Cumming, Georgia.
Number Eleven: He Was a Camp Counselor
Brown acted as a camp counselor at Camp Mikell, which is located in Toccoa, Georgia. He was also a camp counselor at Camp Glisson, which is a United Methodist summer camp located in Dahlonega, Georgia. Camp Glisson was also a retreat in addition to being a summer camp.
Number Ten: He Has Been Touring Since He Was 19 Years Old
Brown began touring when he was just 19 years old, and he had just a drummer and his dog with him. Little did he know that he would still be touring nine years later with the entirety of the Zac Brown Band. There are currently eight members in the Zac Brown Band (including Zac Brown).
Number Nine: Zac Brown Band’s ‘Chicken Fried’ Was Released Twice
In 2003, Zac Brown Band released their debut single, “Chicken Fried.” The single was included on their album titled Home Grown. However, the song was later re-recorded and released again in 2008 to country radio.
Number Eight: He Learned to Play Music From a Very Young Age
Brown began learning classical guitar when he was just seven years old. It was evident from a young age that he had a gift with music – specifically the guitar.
Number Seven: He Was in a Fraternity
Brown went to college at the University of West Georgia, and while he was there, he joined the Zeta Kappa chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. We wonder if he did any keg stands…
Number Six: He Helped Open a Restaurant
In 2004, Brown helped open a club and restaurant with his father. The restaurant and club were located in Georgia’s Lake Oconee area, and the restaurant was called “Zac’s Place.” It featured lots of southern-style food.
Number Five: He Funded His Tour With His Restaurant
Eventually, Brown was able to sell his restaurant, Zac’s Place, to a developer. He then used the money to buy a tour bus, and he was able to begin touring full-time. He toured all over the country at rock and country clubs.
Number Four: He Released His First Album in 2004
The band’s first independent album was called Home Grown. The group released it in 2004.
Number Three: He Owns Another Restaurant
We mentioned Zac’s Place earlier, but did you know that that was not Brown’s first venture into the restaurant industry? He currently owns another restaurant called Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Social Club. It features bands, food, and alcohol that has been hand-picked by Brown.
Number Two: They Released an Interesting Video
The band’s video for “Sweet Annie” actually featured footage of band member Coy Bowles’ wedding. The entire video is comprised of actual, real-life footage.
Number One: Zac Brown Is Happily Married
And he has five children! His kids’ names are Georgia, Alexander, Frost, Joni, and Lucy.
