When Young Thug initially said he was naming his new album Carter VI, it was a gesture to pay homage to Lil Wayne. Now that Lil Wayne is at odds with Cash Money CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams, Young Thug’s album title is now being viewed as disrespectful. Given the fact that Lil Wayne just released a song, for which he took “shots” at Williams and Young Thug, Wayne must be furious about Thug’s new album title tactic. Wayne hasn’t responded to Young Thug yet, but his daughter, Reginae Carter, weighed in on the situation. “Is he trying to be funny with this Carter 6? Cause it’s pretty childish to me,” Lil Wayne’s daughter tweeted. She also tweeted, “Try again if you’re trying to get on my fathers [sic] level.”
Lil Wayne’s “Carter” albums have become a staple in hip hop music. The first album from the “Carter” series, Tha Carter, was released in 2004. Wayne would go on to drop Tha Carter II in 2005, Tha Carter III in 2008, and Tha Carter IV in 2011. His fans are still waiting on Cash Money Records to release Tha Carter V, which was expected to be dropped last year. The album has already been completed, but Birdman and Cash Money are holding the project in limbo.
Last week, Juvenile was asked to give his opinion on the Cash Money turmoil. The rapper stated he would rather stay out of the drama and let things play out on their own. Juvenile was a rapper on Cash Money from 1991 to 2002, until he left the record label citing financial issues with Birdman. In 2003, Juvenile returned to the label and released his Juve the Great project. Following his album release, Juvenile would depart from Cash Money for a second time.
This year, the New Orleans rapper decided to make another return to the infamous Cash Money Records. Throughout all of his on-going issues with Williams and the label, Lil Wayne did not intervene in the saga. Juvenile said he’s going to give Lil Wayne the same respect. On March 26th, Juvenile is dropping his Mardi Gras II mixtape, which features production from former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh.
