WU LYF – We Bros

[jwplatform Gq8ghowP-Pqiywodl]

A climactic, drawn-out drum roll follows the rhythm of the feet of five grubby kids running down a dirt road. As the beat picks up, we still don’t know where they’re heading so fast. WU LYF (which stands for WORLD UNiTE, Lucifer Youth Foundation) chants and wails a raspy atmospheric melody with “We Bros,” a song that has Real Estate’s vibe, but with far more urgency and suspense.

As the kids hit a high fence, they’re faced the first of many unknowns – will it shock them, or can they scale it? The youngest of them places her hand to the metal in perfect timing with the beats of silence between the chorus and the next verse. The next bit feels like The Hunger Games, as we watch them flit through the trees at what feels like breakneck speed. Only at the very end do you learn that they’re not trying to get somewhere, but rather, away from something.
