Village Voice Hosts 5th Annual 4Knots Festival

This Saturday, July 11th, marks the fifth annual 4Knots Music Festival founded by The Village Voice. Sponsored by many large companies including Budweiser, the 4Knots Music Festival will take place on Pier 84 in Hudson River Park and will feature music from noon until 10 PM. The bands and artists scheduled to perform at 4Knots are Surfbort, Heaven, Heaters, Meatbodies, Happyness, Screaming Females, Mikal Cronin, Twin Peaks, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, and Super Furry Animals.

Originally named after the speed at which the water travels in the East River, 4Knots Music Festival has become a staple in the New York music scene. 4Knots is known for showcasing emerging indie rock bands as well as some that already have an established following. Last year’s lineup included artists such as Dinosaur Jr., Mac DeMarco, and Those Darlins, who all performed incredibly. However, in contrast to last year, there will only be one main stage this year, instead of two smaller ones. This will also be the first year that 4Knots Music Festival is a ticketed event. Tickets range from $25 to $50 and are available for purchase online. All proceeds will benefit the Hudson River Park, the longest waterfront park in America.

4Knots’ 2015 headliner, Super Furry Animals, has been on hiatus since 2010, and many fans are extremely excited to see them perform live in New York City for the first time in a long time. Recently, they have started to rejoin the music industry with the reissue of their album Mwng and the release of a book about their rise to fame titled Rise of the Super Furry Animals. Many are also quite excited to see Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks. Malkmus is notably famous for being the main singer and songwriter of Pavement, an indie rock band from the 1990s. A third fan-favorite is Twin Peaks, a rock band from Chicago. Formed back in their high school days, Twin Peaks is a five-piece group who are most commonly recognized by their garage-rock and garage-punk sound.

Be sure to attend the 4Knots Music Festival to hear all the latest and upcoming indie rock artists from all over the world. With a variety of bands and performers, 4Knots will surely not disappoint.
