Usher, Missy Elliott Added to Essence Festival

Missy Elliott and Usher have just been added to the Essence Festival artist lineup, which already includes Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, Common, and Erykah Badu. The festival will return to New Orleans on July 2nd through the 5th. This year’s event will be hosted by Nephew Tommy (Steve Harvey Morning Show) and Luenell. For more information regarding the 2015 Essence Festival, fans are encouraged to visit the festival’s website

Lamar has also made a commitment to headline the 2015 Wireless Festival in London during the first week of July. The festival will take place in Finsbury Park on July 3rd through the 5th, and the rapper is scheduled to perform on July 4th. Drake, Avicii, David Guetta, and Nicki Minaj were also named as headliners at the festival. Drake will perform on opening night, Avicii (along with Lamar) performs the following night, and Minaj and Guetta will headline the last night of the festival. This is the second year Drake has been chosen to headline the festival, last year he backed out of the event and was replaced by Kanye West

This year marks the Wireless Festival’s 10th Anniversary, and it promises to be the most memorable festival ever. Some of the other artists on the festival’s lineup include Mary J. Blige (who will also perform at the Essence Festival), A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Childish Gambino, Major Lazer, Tinashe, Rae Sremmurd, Jessie J, Pusha T, and August Alsina. Fans can purchase tickets on the Wireless Festival’s website.

The festival will add new elements to the event, which include implementing fashion for the first time. Perhaps the Wireless promoters decided that bringing fashion to the event would be a good idea, after West’s fashion rant at the festival last year made headlines. The rapper accused Louis Vuitton of discriminating against him because he’s black. People in the stands showed their displeasure for the rapper’s onstage rant by booing him. In fairness, the fans were expecting to see Drake on the stage, and they were upset he did not show up for the festival.

The first Wireless Festival took place in 2005 at Hyde Park in London. The festival was held at Hyde Park for seven years, until it was moved to Harewood House in Leeds, United Kingdom. The last two years, the festival headed back to London at Olympic Park and Finsbury Park. This is the second year the festival returns to Finsbury Park. Some of the past performers at the festival include Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Morrissey, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Beck, Gnarls Barkley, James Blunt, and The Who.
