Tyler the Creator is the King of Twitter

World renowned music festival Coachella is no stranger to using Twitter to market themselves and to track the success of their yearly two week event. This year the festival revealed their lineup via the social networking service, and they have taken things one step further by tracking the more than 3.5 million tweets that were sent out during the first week of the festival (April 10 through 12). This has enabled the company to track who the most talked about artists were when they took the stage over the weekend. Topping the list of most mentioned artists was controversial rapper Tyler the Creator, who performed on Saturday April 11.

Tyler the Creator was able to maximize his impact on Twitter and the Coachella stage by dropping his new solo album Cherry Bomb after performing his set. Even still, this set the newer talent above established acts such as Drake who was the second most tweeted about artist to take the stage.

Rounding out the top five are The Weekend, Jack White, and Madonna who was only on stage for a short period of time but managed to create a furor by passionately kissing Drake at the end of her performance. Several emerging talents also made the rounds on social media services, including FKA Twigs, Run the Jewels, Kygo, Action Bronson, and Ryn Weaver.

Cherry Bomb was Tyler the Creator’s fourth studio album, following the release of his 2013 Wolf. The album includes collaborations with Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Pharrell Williams. Tyler the Creator made headlines for his set and album debut, but he also created a stir after calling out Kendall Jenner, who was in the audience for his performance. The musician, who is known for his controversial, homophobic, and misogynistic personality, singled Jenner out in the audience and made several comments.

“Kendall Jenner here thinking she cute and shit. Hey Kendall, Kendall, Kendall, I’m over here to your right. F*** you.” Not to be outdone, Jenner replied to Tyler the Creator’s rude comments with her middle finger. Since responding, Jenner has taken to Twitter to dispel any rumors of a feud, sharing images from his set and laughing at rumors that she hated the rapper. Jenner enjoyed the rest of her weekend alongside fellow celebrities including her sister, Fergie, and Justin Bieber. A series of tweets from a Jenner can only help your social media presence.
