Ty Hall – Falling Away

Ty Hall recently released a new music video for his song, “Falling Away“. This track is the first single from his May 2015 EP release called I’m Just Fine. It is a really catchy sort of alt-rock tune. The video features empty street shots of Hall’s own hometown: Ottawa, Ontario, which is in Canada, in the middle of the night. Hall wanders through the streets at night, seemingly looking for somebody. Perhaps it is the woman singing on the rooftop? The overall feeling of the video is a little lonely. Hall describes his own music as a roots-influenced sound with urban flavor. I particularly like the incorporation of the violin. I think it adds a certain texture. The trumpet is nice, too. This video does not really make you want to visit Ottowa, but it doesn’t make the town look ugly, either. Overall, “Falling Away” is a perfectly well-made little video that complements the song nicely. Alt rock as a definition is really just an umbrella term signifying a style of music that emerged in the United States in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Alternative Rock is usually characterized by bands who have DIY, “do-it-yourself”, or non-conformist attitudes.
