We already brought you part one of our list of the top 10 deadliest sports of all time, and now we’re back with part two! Check out five more sports that might look fun but are actually extremely dangerous. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Five: Running of the Bulls. We already mentioned bull riding in part one of our list of the world’s top 10 deadliest sports, but here we’ve got another sport involving bulls. The Running of the Bulls is an annual event that takes place in Pamplona in which bull are released and led by runners. Yes, bulls and people on the street at the same time – on purpose, no less! It’s pretty obvious why this sport is so dangerous.
Number Four: Big Wave Surfing. Big wave surfing is exactly that – surfing really, really big waves. Big wave surfing is no different than regular surfing, except the surfers must surf a wave of at least 20 feet for it to be called big wave surfing. The danger in big wave surfing lies in the possibility of falling off the board. An inexperienced surfer can quickly drown in a massive wave if he or she isn’t adequately prepared.
Number Three: Cheerleading. Yes, it’s true! Cheerleading is extremely dangerous. The sport that is commonly associated with frail, petite girls leads to many injuries every year. Cheerleaders can be paralyzed if they fall incorrectly or twist the wrong part of their body. Cheerleading can even lead to death if a person’s neck breaks the wrong way.
Number Two: Cave Diving. Cave diving is an incredibly dangerous and exhilarating sport. Cave divers explore underwater caves that can lead them to beautiful and ethereal sights. However, it is extremely easy to become lost in uncharted underwater caves, and while many divers bring string with them to trace their path, if the string is lost, they may die before finding their way out.
Number One: High Altitude Climbing. High altitude climbing is not for the faint of heart. Though climbing mountains in and of itself is admirable, high altitude climbers go above and beyond – quite literally. However, the effects of high altitudes on a human’s body are quite unnerving. High altitudes can deprive your body of oxygen, cause dizziness and confusion, and even cause brain damage that leads to death.
