In lieu of Apple Music’s family plan for its streaming subscribers, Tidal is now offering a family plan with discounted rates. Tidal announced it will offer its subscribers a $30 plan for a family of five users. The first user will pay $10 per month, and the additional users will pay $5 per month. A family of three would pay $20 per person, and a family of two would pay $15 per person. Tidal is offering discounts for its high-definition users too; the high-definition family plan costs $60 per month. Tidal’s competitor, Apple Music, is offering family plan rates at $14.99 per month for six users. At $14.99 a month, each user will only have to pay $2.50 per month. To date, Apple Music is the low-cost leader in music subscription services.
Jay Z’s new family plan for Tidal is making headlines today, but the mogul’s name also made headlines regarding a story relating to the Confederate flag. Several media outlets reported that Jay Z and Beyoncé were attempting to purchase the rights to the Confederate flag. The reports stated the power couple were going to purchase the rights for $280 million, which would then allow them to keep the flag’s symbol off of apparel and other merchandise. The original story that reported that Jay Z and Beyoncé were purchasing the rights to the flag, had a statement from someone who claimed to be the Carters’ attorney. “My clients are adamant about purchasing the rights to the Rebel Confederate flag. If my clients are successful, purchasing the rights would mean anyone who wants to produce merchandise using the Confederate flag would have to get permission from Mr. and Mrs. Carter,” alleged attorney Ralph Hammerstein stated. Despite the fact that several credible news sources published the story, the article proved to be a fake news report.
The Confederate flag controversy has reached a new peak after the Charleston Church Massacre, where nine innocent African Americans (Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Myra Thompson, Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Susie Jackson, Cynthia Hurd, Tywanza Sanders, Ethel Lance, Rev. Daniel Simmons, and Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton) were gunned down by suspect Dylann Roof on June 17th. Just recently, eBay, Walmart, Amazon, and other major retailers have removed all items with the Confederate flag symbol.
