The Weeknd Scores First Number One on R&B Chart

The Weeknd earned his first Number 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with his “Earned It” song. The top-charting single has been on the R&B singles chart for 14 weeks, and it is featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. “Earned It” is also sitting at Number 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, and it continues to increase its weekly clicks (24 percent increase this week). To date, the hit song has been downloaded over 100,000 times, which has helped “Earned It” reach Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Weeknd is also sitting at Number 9 on the Artist 100, which marks his first time being in the Top 10 on the chart. This week, Taylor Swift topped the top of the Artist 100 chart for the 20th week. The rest of the Top 10 include Kendrick Lamar at Number 2, Maroon 5 at Number 3, Ed Sheeran at Number 4, Drake at Number 5, Sam Smith at Number 6, Ellie Goulding at Number 7, Nicki Minaj at Number 8, The Weeknd at Number 9, and Meghan Trainor at Number 10. Rihanna is currently in the Number 11 position on the Artist 100, after climbing from the 25th spot the week before.

The Weeknd has released five studio albums including House of Balloons, Thursday, Echoes of Silence, Trilogy, and Kiss Land. The R&B singer’s latest project, Kiss Land, was dropped two years ago. The album peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard 200, and it topped the charts on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and UK R&B Albums chart. “Kiss Land,” “Belong to the World,” “Love in the Sky,” “Live For” (featuring Drake), “Pretty,” and “Wanderlust” were all released from the album. “Live For” featuring Drake impacted the charts in the US, UK, South Korea, and Belgium. “Wanderlust” reached three charts in Canada including the Canada Top 40 (Number 14), Canada Hot AC (Number 40), and the Canadian Hot 100 (Number 45).

This year, The Weeknd performed at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia (PA), and the 2015 Sweetlife Festival in Columbia (MD). He will perform at the Drais Rooftop Beachclub in Las Vegas (NV) on June 13th, and the Lollapalooza festival on July 31st in Chicago (IL).
