Taylor Swift Tells All Her Mother Has Cancer

Pop music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift is used to sharing her life experiences with fans. Countless songs have acted as a direct link into her heart’s true feelings, which has created a special bond between Swift and her fans. Today (April 9), Taylor Swift shared some personal news with her fans in a message posted on her Tumblr page. The emotional letter revealed that Swift’s mother, Andrea Finlay-Swift, had been diagnosed with cancer after receiving a checkup. Swift’s mother had agreed to go to the appointment as a Christmas gift for the popstar who was worried that her mother had been too busy to schedule an appointment herself.

Swift started out the letter by explaining her reasoning behind sharing the news, stating “it’s important and I’m used to sharing important events in my life with you.” She went on to detail her mother’s experience with thus far, telling the story of a good appointment with the bad news coming later.

Swift went on to explain that she wanted to keep the particulars of her mother’s diagnosis private, but that her mother wanted her to share the general news. Her mother hopes that the news will encourage parents to keep up to date with their doctor’s appointments. Swift explained that if her fans’ parents were too busy, that they should make similar requests. “Your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle.”

While her mother will be receiving treatment for her disease, Taylor Swift is getting ready to embark upon a world tour in support of her current album. The tour is kicking off with a set of shows in Tokyo, Japan on May 5th and 6th before hitting North America on May 20th in Bossier City, Louisiana. Swift will go on to perform two legs in North America, one in Europe, and one in Australia. Her final show is currently scheduled for December 12th in Melbourne Australia. Swift claims that her mother “wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight.”

Since posting her message, fans across the globe have shared support with the Swift family. The hashtag #PrayForMamaSwift has been trending on social media sites since this morning, though Swift herself has been silent on her media accounts since posting the message. It is unclear what the next step will be for the Swift family, but at least they know that they are receiving positive energy from across the world.
