Taylor Swift’s New Song About Old Boyfriend

At midnight, Taylor Swift released her new single “Out of the Woods” from her album 1989. Evidence suggests that the new song may expose yet another ex-boyfriend.

When asked about 1989 in interviews, Taylor Swift expressed that the album is not about heartbreak. Many fans refuse to agree as they have already interpreted “Out of the Woods” to be about her break-up with ex-boyfriend Harry Styles of One Direction. Though the lyrics in the chorus could pertain to anyone, many feel the lyrics in the verses highlight events of her public relationship with Harry Styles. In the song, Taylor sings “Looking at it now / Last December, we were built to fall apart.” In December 2013, the couple was publicly photographed while holding hands, along with other PDA.  Reportedly, Taylor also met Harry’s parents during that time.

Back in 2012, Swift and Styles were seen wearing identical necklaces which were the first confirmation that they were a couple, giving them their new identity “Haylor.” In Taylor’s new single, she says, “Your necklace hanging round my neck.” Taylor Swift then goes on to sing of private moments only she and the mystery man could know about. “The night we couldn’t quite forget / When we decided / To move the furniture so we could dance.”

The most indirect reference dug up so far was, “Remember when you hit the brake too soon/Twenty stitches in the hospital room.” Taylor recently addressed the line in an interview with Rolling Stone. She admitted to a snowmobiling incident which sent her and a “male friend” to the hospital. Harry and Taylor did have a winter getaway to Park City, Utah in 2012. The couple stayed a Canyons Resort, which has a large list of winter sports activities including, snowmobiling. Headlines have ever been linked to the topic and Taylor’s explanation of it was vague. She admitted that she told her friend “Please don’t tell anyone”, and was very careful not to let his name slip.

Swift’s history tells us that she’s not too keen on revealing names. She has stated that she prefers to get point across with emotions instead. She said “This was a relationship where I was kind of, living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day.” Swift continued to explain how “Out of the Woods” was a favorite of hers because it truly displayed all of the “frantic” emotions she felt during her relationship.Though fans will have to keep guessing about Taylor’s muses, one fun fact you’ll know after hearing this song is that Taylor Swift ended the relationship. “Remember when we couldn’t take the heat / I walked out and I said I’m setting you free.”
