Taylor Swift Named Global Artist of the Year

Taylor Swift has just been named the Global Recording Artist of 2014 by the international trade group, IFPI. The award is based on the recording artist with the most physical sales, downloads, and music streams worldwide. “Congratulations to Taylor Swift. She merits this result as she is a hardworking and talented performer who has an amazing ability to connect with audiences worldwide,” IFPI chief Frances Moore said. Moore continued, “This IFPI award reflects the global popularity of recording artists across the diverse ways in which fans choose to listen to music today.” Unlike most artists, the country singer’s album was not available to stream on Spotify, or any other music streaming company of its kind. 1989 was available on iTunes, and Swift recently released bonus songs from the project on the Apple retailer. The three newly released songs include “Wonderland,” “You Are in Love,” and “New Romantics.”

To date, Swift’s 1989 album has sold over 8.6 million copies worldwide, and it was Number 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart for eleven non-consecutive weeks. Two singles from the album has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, which include “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off.” The IFPI only recognizes individual recording artists (bands are also considered for the award) with this honor, and the group stated that the Frozen soundtrack would have won if it was recorded by one artist. One Direction was the winner of the 2013 Global Recording Artist award, but they finished in second place for 2014. The rest of the artists who finished in top ten include Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Sam Smith, Katy Perry, and Beyoncé.

Taylor Swift just made headlines by donating $50,000 dollars to New York City public schools, from the proceeds of her “Welcome to New York” single. “We’re deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the singer Welcome to New York to benefit New York City public schools,” the Department of Education spokeswoman, Devora Kaye, stated. The Pennsylvania native was named the Global Welcome Ambassador by New York’s tourism organization. Swift will head out on her 1989 worldwide tour on May 5th in Tokyo, Japan. Before her tour begins, the country singer will perform at the BRIT Awards in London tomorrow.

FDRMX Eyes: Songstress and model Ari Nicole has recently released her music video, “Runaway.” “Runaway” is a pop ballad and anthem for heartbroken women everywhere.
