Taylor Swift made her name with country music, breakup and cute date songs, and a lovable just-a-good-girl-and-her-guitar routine. Now she’s eschewing almost all of that. Country music? Gone. Her record label asked her to put at least three country songs on her upcoming album 1989, but she told them no. Furthermore, the star won’t be attending any more country music awards. As for all the breakups and many boyfriends that used to get her creative juices flowing, she claims she hasn’t had a date since Harry Styles of One Direction happened a year and a half ago. “Like, have not gone on a date,” she said. And the good girl plus guitar bit? She’s probably still strumming, but it looks like the good-girl thing has been called out by Katy Perry.

The flurry of activity surrounding Perry’s tweet (“Watch out for Regina George in Sheep’s Clothing”) has pointed to Taylor as the infamous Mean Girl. In her interview with Rolling Stone, Swift talked about the track “Bad Blood” from 1989, a song that, in keeping with her evolution, is not about a boy but a fellow female songstress. “She did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy. It had to do with business… she tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”

Here’s what happened with that: three dancers left Swift for Perry as the “Firework” singer came back on tour. The thing is, they were Katy’s dancers in the first place. They were working during Perry’s downtime for Swift, but even while they got close to the “Shake It Off” singer, they apparently didn’t plan to stay. When they informed Swift, she promptly fired them. Even if that’s not the reason the two superstars don’t speak to each other, they do have an ex in common (John Mayer), which can’t be as much of a non-factor as Taylor is trying to play it.

Perry’s tweet only seems to be a confirmation that the anticipated track is about her. Unless she’s defending another famous pop star who tried to hire people from underneath the country-shunner, her timing indicates that she knows what musical allegations are coming out with the album. 1989 (named for the year the singer was born) will be released October 27th, brought to you by fewer boys and zero twang.
