Tamia Has New Single, New Album Coming in June

R&B singer Tamia just dropped her new single, “Sandwich and a Soda,” on iTunes and the major digital markets yesterday. The song will serve as the lead single for her LoveLife album, which will be released in June. The project features production from The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, and Pop & Oak. The-Dream and Tricky Stewart have collaborated on a number of hit records including Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It),” Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” The production duo of Pop & Oak’s music credits include Nicki Minaj’s “Your Love,” Chris Brown’s “Superhuman” featuring Keri Hilson, and Trey Songz’ “Unusual” featuring Drake. Tamia signed with Def Jam Recordings in August, and LoveLife will be her first release on the record label.

Tamia’s other albums include her self-titled debut album in 1998, A Nu Day (2000), More (2004), Between Friends (2006), and Beautiful Surprise (2012). A Nu Day is the singer’s most successful album to date, selling more than 668,000 copies. The album featured production from Missy Elliott, Dallas Austin, and Shep Crawford. “Stranger In My House” was released as the second single from the project, and it reached the Number 10 position on the Billboard 200 chart. The six-time Grammy nominated singer will perform at the Seoul Jazz Festival on May 23rd through May 25th in South Korea. Other performers on the lineup include Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper Experiment, Caro Emerald, Sergio Mendes, Mika, and more.

Next week is MS Awareness Week (March 2-8), and Tamia has been a strong advocate for the disease ever since her MS diagnosis in 2003. The singer said she is able to control the disease by exercising and maintaining a healthy diet. During an interview with Larry King, Tamia described how her symptoms went from tingling in her legs, to not having any sensation in her hands. Tamia said she often experienced tingling and numbness in her legs, but she never took it seriously until she went on vacation. “I literally sat outside for five minutes, and the next day I woke up and I couldn’t really get out of bed. I couldn’t hold a pencil to fill out our forms to get back into the country,” the R&B singer told Larry King.

FDRMX Eyes: Urban pop singer Ari Nicole recently premiered her music video for “Runaway.” “Runaway” addresses the issue of cheating, but also self-confidence.
