Grammy Award-winning band Switchfoot have supported non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms for nine years, and now lead singer Jon Foreman has written a beginning note to founder Jamie Tworkowski’s upcoming book If You Feel Too Much: Thoughts on Things Found and Lost and Hoped For. A global leader in suicide prevention, TWLOHA has made its mark on the music scene with its message of hope and help.
If You Feel Too Much is a collection of stories, essays and blogs from the past ten years, and Foreman joins Blue Like Jazz author Donald Miller who writes the foreword, throwing his support behind Tworkowski. Indicative of the personal content in the book, it opens with the note Foreman wrote to the Florida native on his birthday some years ago.
Initially supporting TWLOHA when the movement began in 2006, Switchfoot was the first band to wear the iconic title t-shirt. Created to raise money for the treatment of Tworkowski’s friend Renee Yohe, the San Diego natives were soon joined by the likes of Underoath, Paramore, Bayside and numerous other outfits in support of the organization’s work. A staple at Vans Warped Tour since their beginnings, founder and producer Kevin Lyman has also given his recommendation of the book.
If You Feel Too Much will include Tworkowski’s essay titled To Write Love On Her Arms which was famously written about the five days prior to Yohe entering rehab, and was then published on MySpace. Featuring works published on the organization’s t-shirts, many of which Foreman still wears on stage, the collection also includes previously unread letters and thoughts about Tworkowski’s own experiences of love, loss , celebration and struggle.
Hip-hop artist and spoken word poet Propaganda has joined Foreman in supporting Tworkowski’s book saying, “There are people that say they care for others. And then there are those that do care. Then there is Jamie, who breathes love. This book is proof.”
After finishing the Australian leg of their world tour, Switchfoot have returned to San Diego to commence the recording of their tenth album. They will join NEEDTOBREATHE on their Tour De Compadres this month with Ben Rector, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbours and Colony House.
If You Feel Too Much will be released by Tarcher/Penguin on May 26th. Tworkowski will go on a national tour the same day, covering major cities including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Nashville and Houston.
