The Spice Girls were one of the most influential girl bands in the 1990s. They inspired millions of girls to believe in themselves and find their inner strength. Though they lived a large part of their career as musicians in the public eye, there are still some hidden facts that many people don’t know about the Spice Girls. Number Fifteen: They All Had to Audition for the Group. The Spice Girls were in no way an organically organized group. In fact, the concept of a girl group was designed as an answer to all the boy bands who were skyrocketing to popularity at the time. Because of this, they all had to audition for their “parts.”
Number Fourteen: There Was a Fifth Spice. Her name was Michelle, and she ended up leaving because her mom got sick. She apparently also did not fit in very well, and she said she was known as the “smart spice.”
Number Thirteen: Baby Spice Replaced the Rejected Spice Girl. Baby Spice was Michelle’s replacement! Baby Spice is named Emma Bunton, and she is now 39 years old.
Number Twelve: Victoria Beckham Looks Really, Really Different. In the documentary Raw Spice, which features the audition process and forming of the group, Posh Spice, now more widely known as Victoria Beckham, can be seen looking very different from her sharp, angular appearance now. She can even be spotted smiling.
Number Eleven: Ginger Spice and Scary Spice Did Not Get Along. Scary would often make quite subtle jabs at Ginger spice, and they clearly did not get along.
Number Ten: They All Lived Together While They Were Rehearsing. In what appears to be some kind of college dorm setup, the girls all lived together while they were rehearsing. This most likely brought them together and may have caused tension at times as well.
Number Nine: Sporty Spice Almost Went Into Theatre. Though Sporty Spice had originally planned to go into theatre, she auditioned and made it into the Spice Girls. She is actually really sporty, too, and she can even do an aerial cartwheel.
