Two of rock and roll’s most iconic artists are about to join forces to produce a highly anticipated album.  Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee will perform on all nine tracks of the Smashing Pumpkins upcoming album Monument to an Elegy

The friendship between Lee and Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan began in 1991 when Lee attended a concert by the then brand new rock band. Since then the two have grown close as each of their carreers has led them to be two of the biggest rock icons of the 90’s.  “He is a wonderful, warm person to be around, “Corgan said of Lee, “and I wouldn’t have come to him with this proposition if I didn’t trust that this was something we’d both be proud of,” Corgan wrote. “So we expect to finish up the drums in a few weeks, seeing as we’re in a rush to get this stuff out.”

Lee is known among rock fans as the drummer for Motley cure beginning in dad, but his personal life has far eclipsed his musical experience.  mown for being a bad boy of rock and roll, Lee came to national attention through his relationship with actress/model Pamela Anderson.  He has also been part of the reality show Rockstar Supernova.  Throughout all this has still remained an active musician performing with many afferent bands.  Tommy Lee is set to tour with Mötley Crüe one last time beginning this july.

“We always had a vision of going out with a big fucking bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with one or two original band members,” Lee to Rolling Stone. “Our job here is done.”

Monument to an Elegy is set to come out sometime in 2015.  Soon after another Smashing Pumpkins album will be released in the form of Day for Night, making next year a very active time for the pioneering rock band.
