Skin Care: Top 10 Tips to Survive Winter (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of the top 10 skin care tips to survive winter, and now we’re back with part two! Check out five more fascinating skin care tips that will help you weather the winter without feeling totally frustrated by springtime. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Five: Layer Your Products. It might sound excessive, but using multiple products on the same area of skin will help ensure it’s properly moisturized. Try using bath oil or a moisturizing body cleanser on your arms, legs, and torso in the shower, and then rub lotion all over those same areas once you’re dried off.

Number Four: Don’t Exfoliate Too Much. We’ve mentioned exfoliation in just about every point on this list, but that doesn’t mean you should be going at it gung-ho. Exfoliation is extremely important, but too much exfoliation can also be extremely damaging. Opt for a gentle exfoliant with small beads that won’t totally tear your skin to shreds. One of the cheapest and most effective options is St. Ives Purify Exfoliating Body Wash, which is sold at most drug stores for three dollars or less.

Number Three: Take Care of Your Feet. Though many skin care products focus on the fact, skin care truly begins at your feet, and this is especially true in winter. Every night before bed, use a buffer to get rid of dead skin and calluses, and then follow it up with a rich moisturizer. After the moisturizer, wear socks to lock as much moisture in as possible.

Number Two: Shorten Your Showers. Though cold temperatures might tempt you to take long, extra-hot showers, resist the temptation! Instead, take shorter showers in lukewarm water. Really hot water will zap your skin of the little moisture it had before, and the more time you spend in the water, the less moisture your skin will retain in the long run.

Number One: Throw Away Those Silk PJs. Though silk pajamas and sheets can feel incredibly nice on your skin, the truth is that it can irritate your already damaged skin. Use sheets and pajamas with tightly woven cotton or cotton flannel. We hope you enjoyed our list of 10 skin care tips to help you weather the winter!
