Shawn Mendes released the music video for “Never Be Alone,” the second promotional off his debut album, Handwritten. In the music video, the 16 year old singer-songwriter makes appearances writing and singing in a secluded house while a young girl is seen hiking through the woods, assumingly on the way to where Mendes is residing. The video follows the release of the album’s first promotional single, “A Little Too Much,” which was also supported with a music video earlier this month. Mendes is planning to release three additional songs in a similar manner before the album’s April 28 release date.
Mendes is currently performing a tour in Europe, and the musician is expected to return to North America for a series of performances kicking off on April 8th in Miami, Florida and finishing up on October 31st in Tampa, Florida. This will be the Canadian born singer-songwriter’s first full-length album. In 2014, he released a self-titled EP which peaked at number 5 on Canadian and United States charts and birthed his breakout single, “Life of the Party.” With the single, Mendes became the youngest artist with a Top 25 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 when the track appeared at the Number 24 position. Before releasing music, Mendes got his start creating and posting videos on the social media app, Vine, where he started posting musical covers in 2013.
After the success of “Life of the Party,” it has been named the first official single on Handwritten. After the track’s success, Mendes followed it with the second single, “Something Big,” which began making waves in November of 2014. Although the track hasn’t performed quite as well, Mendes’ career is off to a great start. In 2014, the artist won his first Teen Choice Award in the Choice Web Star: Music category and was nominated for the Choice Viner category. He is currently nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year in the Juno Awards, which recognize Canadian musicians. His fans, the Mendes Army, are nominated for Best Fan Army in the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
