Shawn Mendes: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Vine star and musician Shawn Mendes rose to fame in 2013, and he has been living in the spotlight ever since. Despite spending so much time in the public eye, there are still some things about the star that many people don’t know. Here, we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Shawn Mendes. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Has a Crush on Emma Watson. Mendes admitted in an interview that he loves Harry Potter, and he found Watson “really badass” as Hermione.

Number Fourteen: He Is Afraid of the Ocean. Mendes said that his biggest fear is being alone in the ocean. There is nothing that scares the Vine star more than being in the ocean by himself.

Number Thirteen: He Carries Around a Stuffed Lion. In a 2014 interview, Mendes said that he still carries around a stuffed animal. The animal is a stuffed lion, and he named it Leo. He said has had it “…for as long as I can remember.”

Number Twelve: He Hates Tomatoes. Mendes finds tomatoes “disgusting,” and he has also said not to eat them because they’re “bad for you.” Some people don’t eat tomatoes because they belong to a class of plants called nightshades. Nightshade plants have been rumored to be associated with chronic diseases, although little scientific information exists to support this claim.

Number Eleven: He Has an Alternate Personality. Mendes has said that his alter-ego is named Benito. He says that he becomes Benito when he has to go into photo shoots and wants to take it all seriously.

Number Ten: He Might Be the New Justin Bieber. Mendes’ debut album topped the Billboard charts, and he set a new record. He is now the youngest artist whose debut album hit the number one spot since – you guessed it – Justin Bieber.

Number Nine: He Toured With Taylor Swift. On her 1989 World Tour, Swift invited Mendes to join her on stage for his birthday. She had more than 60,000 people sing “Happy Birthday” to the star, who was turning 17 years old.
