Shakira Is a Mom Again, Welcomes Second Son

Shakira and FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué welcomed a baby boy into the world yesterday. The pop superstar had her baby in a hospital in Barcelona, according to reports. Shakira reportedly reserved an entire hospital floor, and her first son Milan was also delivered at the same hospital. The newborn baby’s name has not been released to the public.

Shakira recently made headlines by inviting the world to her baby shower. The “World Baby Shower” was a benefit sponsored by UNICEF. People were encouraged to be a part of the baby shower by purchasing a gift, which was delivered to a child in need around the world. Some of the gifts people could have purchased were midwifery kits, measles and polio vaccines, baby scales, blankets, soccer balls, and storybooks. Shakira hosted a similar event when she was pregnant a couple of years ago with her first son Milan. The pop singer was able to fund close to 4,000 therapeutic good packets, more than 80,000 polio vaccines, about 200,000 rehydrating salts, and almost 1,000 mosquito nets for those people in need.

Shakira released her last album, which was self-tilted, in 2014. It was the entertainer’s second English-language album of her career. Shakira debuted at Number 2 on Billboard’s 200 chart, and it sold 85,000 in its debut week. Three songs were released from Shakira including “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” “Empire,” and “Dare (La La La).” The pop singer has headlined five major tours, including The Sun Comes Out World Tour in 2010. The tour embarked on an extensive 107-date tour, including forty-three dates in North America. The Sun Comes Out World Tour grossed $53.2 million in revenue, and it was ranked number twenty on Pollstar’s top twenty-five world tours.

The tour had a large number of opening acts during its seven leg tour schedule. One of the opening acts, Ziggy Marley, made guest appearances when the singer made stops in Argentina, Paraguay, and Peru. Shakira is expected to release her eleventh studio album in the spring of this year. Hip hop recording artist, Iggy Azalea, is reportedly going to be featured on the album. In the past, the pop singer has collaborated with Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Lil Wayne. Shakira is also expected to tour later this year.
