With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Shakira. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: Her Full Name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. Shakira, in Arabic, translates to “full of grace” or “grateful.” And the singer sure is humble, so her name is quite fitting!

Number Fourteen: She Did Not Become Famous Until the Release of Her Third Album. Shakira’s third album is called Pies Descalzos, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of her fame. She then grew extremely famous in Latin America.

Number Thirteen: She Was Engaged to a Political Guy. Shakira was engaged to the son of the then-president of Argentina! Her fiance’s name was Antonio de la Rua. He starred in her video for “Underneath Your Clothes,” and the video caused quite a stir with her Argentinian fanbase. This was due to the fact that Antonio’s father had just resigned from the presidency when the video was released.

Number Twelve: She Is Very Smart. Shakira has an IQ of 140! Not only that, but she speaks four languages fluently. She can speak Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese fluently.

Number Eleven: She Named an Album After an Incident. Shakira’s album, Donde Estan Los Ladrones?, which translates to “Where are the thieves?”, is named after an incident in which thieves stole her suitcase that contained all of the album’s songs.

Number Ten: She Learned How to Belly Dance From Her Grandmother. Shakira’s grandmother, who is Lebanese, is the one who taught her how to dance like that.

Number Nine: She Performs Barefoot. Ever the down to earth woman, Shakira actually performs barefoot at almost all of her concerts. We hope she has people scan the stage for rusty nails before performing!
