Sam Smith Forced to Cancel Australia Tour Dates

Sam Smith announced he is canceling the remaining dates of his tour in Australia. The pop singer has been diagnosed with a hemorrhage to his vocal chords. “I am deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans that I have to cancel my Australian tour. I have been vocally exhausted for a while now. However, last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal cords,” the singer stated. Smith also said the doctors have ordered him to take a break from singing, and continuing to perform can cause severe damage. Smith performed in Australia on Saturday and Monday night, but his shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Perth have been canceled. The singer’s canceled dates include his show at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on April 28th, the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne on April 30th, the AEC Theatre in Adelaide on May 1st, and HBF Stadium in Perth on May 4th. The show dates are expected to be rescheduled in December, and the new dates will be announced soon.

The Grammy-winning singer’s tour   in Asia is supposed to launch on May 7th in Tokyo. Whether these dates will be canceled or not will be revealed soon. He is also scheduled to perform at The Hangout music festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 15th. Smith’s US leg of his tour will began this summer on July 17th in Louisville, Kentucky.

The pop singer’s platinum-selling project, In The Lonely Hour, finally made it to the top of the albums chart in Australia this week. After a year on the chart, In The Lonely Hour peaked at Number 1 in Australia. In The Lonely Hour was dropped in May of last year. “Lay Me Down,” “Money on My Mind,” “Stay With Me,” “I’m Not the Only One,” and “Like I Can” were all released as singles. The album peaked at Number 1 in New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Australia.

In The Lonely Hour won Best Pop Vocal Album, and the single “Stay With Me” won a Grammy for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. “Stay With Me” has sold over five million digital copies in the US, and it went to Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single peaked at Number 1 on the US Adult Top 40, US Adult Contemporary chart, and the US Mainstream Top 40.

Last month, Rihanna revealed she wants to work with Sam Smith. The pop singer stated that Smith is very talented, and she is hopeful the two artists will be able to record a song together. Rihanna’s new album is expected to be released some time this year.
