Sam Smith and John Legend Rerecord ‘Lay Me Down’

Sam Smith and John Legend collaborated to record a new version of Smith’s “Lay Me Down.” The two singers recorded the new version in support of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day, which is a charity in the United Kingdom. All the proceeds from the song’s sales will go to the charity. Smith and Legend will also perform “Lay Me Down” at the Comic Relief: Face the Funny event on March 13th at the London Palladium. “Lay Me Down holds a very special place in my heart. Not only did I perform it at the Brit Awards, I’m now going to perform it live on the Red Nose Day show with the extremely talented John Legend,” Smith said.

The singer also said he is really proud to raise money for charities like Red Nose Day. “I recently visited a Comic Relief funded project in my hometown which supports the young LGBT community in London,” the Grammy-winning artist stated. He added,”I’m extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the UK and across Africa.” Legend also said he is excited about finally working with Smith, especially since it’s for a good cause. “Sam is such a talented artist. We’ve been looking forward to working together for a while now. I’m so glad we could collaborate on such a great song and for such a great cause,” the Academy Award-winner stated.

Sam Smith just made history on the UK charts when his album, In The Lonely Hourreentered the charts at Number 1. The charts just implemented tracking streaming data, digital downloads, and physical sales for all albums released in the UK. In The Lonely Hour is the first album to reach the top of the charts under the new system. Smith will launch his North America tour on July 17th at the Forecastle Festival in Kentucky. He will perform 19-dates in several cities in North America, including shows in Miami, Raleigh, San Diego, and more. Smith’s tour will conclude on August 17th in Grand Prairie, Texas.

John Legend will perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival,which will be held on April 24th through May 3rd. He will also perform at the Rock in Rio concert in Las Vegas, before he travels to Ireland on June 23rd for a show at The Marquee. Legend will travel to the United Kingdom for a show on June 25th in London. He will remain in the UK for a few dates, and perform in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds. The Leeds show is currently the last date on Legend’s UK run, which wraps on July 1st.
