Sam Hunt Discusses His Success in Country Music

Sam Hunt was at the New Faces Show at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. The show recognizes artists who have made an impact on country radio in the past year. Hunt’s first album, Montevallo, featured the two hit singles “Leave the Night On” and “Take Your Time.” Both songs reached the Number 1 position on the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart. “It feels great to be recognized among a group of new faces that I feel like are some of the most talented in the genre right now. I’m flattered to be a part of it,” Hunt told Billboard magazine.

The country singer said his first radio tour was a great learning experience, and he was appreciative how people embraced him and his music. “I just tried to keep an open mind and not have too many thoughts about it in general. I just tried to educate myself on that whole world as I experienced it,” Hunt stated. He continued, “It was such a great experience because it really is like a family within that world, and they don’t just let anyone in that fold. They have definitely given me a warm reception from the beginning, which I appreciate.”

Hunt accredits a part of his success to being true to who he is, and thinks the people have gravitated to him because of his realness. “I think that people in general appreciate honesty and not trying to cook something up just to fit a mold that would be beneficial for you,” the country singer told Billboard. He added, “The way I approach the music is just trying to be as true to myself as I could. I think that’s what connects with everybody who are coming out to the shows.”

Sam Hunt is currently headlining the Lipstick Graffiti Tour, which began last month. The tour has already traveled to California, Texas, Massachusetts, and New York. The remaining tour dates will make stops in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Nebraska before it concludes in Wisconsin on April 4th. On March 7th, Hunt will travel to the United Kingdom for the Country to Country music festival in London. The other artists on the lineup include Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Florida Georgia Line, Brandy Clark, Jason Aldean, and more.

FDRMX Eyes: Indie rock duo The Dodos recently premiered their latest music video for “Competition.” The Dodos will be performing at the Music Hall in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) this Friday, February 27th.
