Ryan Casullo, the 34 year-old chairman of Music is Art, was killed in a car accident in upstate New York on Saturday night. While the cause of the crash remains unknown, it seems that Casullo’s motorcycle struck a larger vehicle while entering the I-190 ramp in Buffalo, New York. He was ejected from the motorcycle and and later died at the Erie County Medical Center while being treated for his injuries.
Casullo served as the chairman of Music is Art for the past six years, and today he leaves behind one wife and two children. The founder of the organization MiA and Goo Goo Dolls bassist, Robby Takac, shared a statement on the company website regarding Casullo’s death:
“It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you of the death of our MiA board chairman and my good friend Ryan Casullo. We will surely miss his upbeat attitude, his love for loud guitars, and his willingness to give himself for the benefit of others, he was truly a special person,” wrote Takac.
MiA’s Executive Director Tracy Shattuck stated that Casullo was like a brother to her. Apparently he had been looking forward to moving to Arizona at the end of this year. It is always a tragic thing when an art-lover meets an unexpected accident. There is currently an investigation going into the cause of the accident.
“He was the face of this organization,” said Mike Audet, MiA board member. “I just thought he brought an incredible energy, and he did so much for the organization.”
Music is Art is a company dedicated to enriching and reinforcing the cultural impact of music on New York’s non-metropolitan communities and surrounding areas. It is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 by Goo Goo Dolls bassist and Buffalo resident, Robby Takac. MiA operates through a board of directors, staff, sponsors and volunteers, as well as collaborations with several partner organizations.
There have been no statements regarding the state or future of the organization in the wake of Casullo’s death. But what is clear is that there is a strong community represented there.
