Roth Era Van Halen Hits Road this Summer

Diamond Dave will be hooking back up with the Van Halen clan to hit the road on a tour so massive, it will rival anything from their hey day in ’84-’85. While this is not a reunion of the original lineup – bassist Michael Anthony will continue to be missing from the stage and Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, will be handling the bass – it will give the chance for the band to redeem themselves after they cancelled all shows midway into their 2013 tour.

Kenny Wayne Shepard is serving as the opening act for the entire tour. You can see what you are in store for next week when the band preforms on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The band is claiming it to be the first US television performance with David Lee Roth, implying they have already done this with “the red rocker” Sammy Hagar. This announcement contradicts Eddie Van Halen’s previous statement earlier this year that the band had no plans to record or tour.

Roth and the Van Halen Brothers have seen their relationship take its ups and downs over the years. After the initial break up, Roth and Van Halen, who replaced him with singer Sammy Hagar, both saw success on their own until the ’90’s rolled around, and neither party could find their way in a post-Nirvana landscape. They tried a pre-mature reunion with Roth in the late ’90’s, which led to Hagar quitting the band. Now, after recording an album together and some time spent back on the road, the union hopes to rekindle the fire they had in the ’80’s.
