Rod Stewart will turn 70 in January. Just a few months later, he’s going on tour again.
The rock superstar just announced his plans to take his tour to Australia and New Zealand in March and April of 2015. For the better part of this year, he toured the US with Carlos Santana and began work on a follow up to his 2013 album, “Time.”
Of his birthday, Stewart says “birthdays don’t mean anything to me… (they) come and go, and they don’t worry me at all.” But he’s slightly more excited about the prospect of the tour: “I’ve got the energy, the voice is in good stead, the people are still coming out to see me which I very much appreciate. And I’m still enjoying it.”
If you’re doing the math by this point, you’ll see that Stewart’s career has been escalating for nearly half a century. Like his US tour, the singer plans to make this series of shows reflective on “The Hits” – this certainly means we’ll hear “Rhythm of My Heart,” “Hot Legs,” and “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.” Aside from selling over 100 million records worldwide and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Stewart made history when he got into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1994 when he performed the largest-in-attendance free rock concert in history (on Copacabana Beach, Rio).
Stewart’s last visit to New Zealand was in 2012, and his return will begin in March with an appearance at Perth Arena (Australia will proceed New Zealand). Following stops include Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Dunedin and Auckland, plus an outdoor concert at one place he’s performed at several times before: the iconic Hanging Rock in Macedon. Here, Stewart makes history yet again by being the first performer to give multiple tour shows at this location.
