Rihanna isn’t the first recording artist to lend a song for a sporting event. Last year, Fall Out Boy allowed ESPN to use their single “Centuries” as the theme song for the college football playoffs.
The record also became a huge hit at sports arenas, and it was played at NHL, NBA, MLB, and other professional and college arenas. Some people may have complained that “Centuries” was played too much on ESPN and at sports arenas, but all of those song plays helped “Centuries” become a huge hit on the charts as well.
It reached the Number 2 position on the US Hot Rock Songs chart, and it went to Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Centuries” was certified platinum, after it sold over one million copies in the US. The record was the lead single on Fall Out Boy’s American Beauty/American Psycho album, which was released earlier this year. The album went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart in its first week. American Beauty/American Psycho sold 218,000 in its debut week, and became Fall Out Boy’s third number one album.
The band is currently on their American Beauty/American Psycho worldwide tour, which also includes performing at several music festivals. This summer, Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa will embark on The Boys of Zummer Tour. The tour is scheduled for 38-dates, which will begin on June 10th in New Jersey. The Boys of Zummer Tour will also travel to Massachusetts, Ohio, Ontario, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and several other states in North America. The tour wraps on August 10th in Los Angeles. Fall Out Boy will resume their American Beauty/American Psycho Tour in the United Kingdom starting in October.
