The Replacements Are Heading Back on Tour

The Replacements are heading out on a 13-date tour starting on April 9th at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Washington. They will also travel to San Francisco (California), Portland (Oregon), Denver (Colorado), Detroit (Michigan), and several other cities. The US portion of the tour will conclude on May 9th in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). The Replacements will also travel to Europe and the United Kingdom in May and June. During their overseas run, the band will perform at the Primavera Sound festival in Spain on May 28th. The only remaining original members of the band include Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson. David Minehan and Josh Freese are expected to join the Replacements on their current tour dates.

The Replacements made their first comeback in 2013, making several appearances at music festivals, including the Riot Fest in Toronto, Chicago, and Denver. The band also played at the famed Coachella Festival last year. Tommy Stinson said the band’s reunion was inevitable because they never ended things on bad terms; they just simply walked away from doing music together. “By the time we got to All Shook Down and toured and Chris quit, we’d kind of taken it as far as we could,” Stinson told AZ Central. Stinson said that the band was also burned out on being in a band, and Westerberg was ready to pursue a solo career. “Paul was ready to kind of check into some other stuff, more on a solo level. Certainly, I was as well. It was just time,” Stinson said. In 1993, Westerberg released his solo project 14 Songs on Reprise Records. He would go on to release several other solo albums including Suicaine Gratification, Stereo, and Come Feel Me Tremble. Stinson would also embark on a solo career in 2004, with the release of his album Village Gorilla Head

The Replacements told Rolling Stone magazine they may put out an album in the near future. The band has not released a studio album since their All Shook Down project in 1990. The album released four songs from the project including “Merry Go Round,” which went to Number 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. All Shook Down was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Since 1981, the band has released seven studio albums including Hootenanny, Let It Be, and Pleased to Meet Me
