Raptor House Preparing for South By Southwest

The Raptor House has become a staple at South By Southwest (SXSW). The two-day music, culture, and technology event started in 2012, and it has attracted some major key players in the music business. One of those major players is Roc Nation‘s president Jay Brown. “I didn’t know too much about the event, but I just loved that it wasn’t pretentious, and it was a great opportunity for creative guys to meet players and tech people and musicians,” Brown told Billboard magazine. He added,”It was this place where all three of those communities didn’t otherwise meet.”

The Raptor House event had such a profound influence on Brown, that he teamed up with Raptor Group founder Jim Pallotta two years ago. The event has had speakers like Deepak Chopra, Jack Dorsey (Twitter), Troy Carter (music manager and investor), and Randi Zuckerberg (former Facebook marketer). Kanye West, Nas, and J. Cole have also made appearances at the Raptor House, which has also featured performances by Willie Nelson, K’naan, Haim, Solange, Rudimental, and more. Pallotta’s main objective is to create an environment where individuals from different aspects of entertainment, can build relationships and make deals. “We want a place where you could do a deal in the parking lot, but also share a beer while you listen to the CEO of Chanel discuss emerging markets,” Pallotta told Billboard.

Jay Brown and Jim Pallotta are also very selective about who they invite to the event as well. “Jay and I went into our event last year and said, first and foremost, no assholes. If someone was like that, they wouldn’t be invited back,” Pallotta stated. The Raptor House is about building relationships and brands, and people who don’t understand that concept, can not be a part of the event. West made an appearance at Raptor House last year, and the rapper is reportedly going to be a surprise guest at this year’s event too. This year, Raptor House will also showcase Joi Ito (MIT Media Lab), Anthony Piedmontese (Bon Jovi co-manager), Fred Studer (NetSuite CMO), Lisa Licht (Yahoo VP), actor Jason Schwartzman (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Big Sean, Elle King, Melanie Fiona, and more.
