Rapper Dom Kennedy Reveals Album Release Date

Dom Kennedy is dropping his new project this summer. The rapper went on social media yesterday to reveal the release date for his new album entitled Dom Kennedy. Kennedy posted the artwork for his upcoming project, along with caption “6.2.15 OPM.” The letters “OPM” stand for Other People’s Money, which is Kennedy’s record label. To date, Kennedy has dropped two studio albums named From the Westside with Love II (2011) and Get Home Safely (2013). His debut entitled From the Westside with Love II featured production from DJ Mustard, The Futuristiks, and Scoop Deville. The album reached Number 15 on the Independent Albums chart and Number 19 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart. Some of the featured tracks on the project include “New Jeeps” featuring Asher Roth and Mikey Rocks, “2mph” featuring Big K.R.I.T., and “Beats, Hoes and Rhymes” featuring Casey Veggies and Schoolboy Q.

The follow-up album, Get Home Safely, featured guest appearances from Nipsey Hussle, TeeFLii, and Ty Dolla Sign. It respectively peaked at Number 23 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and Number 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Just like his debut, Get Home Safely also featured production from DJ Mustard and The Futuristiks. Along with his studio albums, Kennedy has dropped several successful mixtapes, which include 25th Hour, FutureStreet/DrugSounds, Best After Bobby, From the Westside with Love, The Original Dom Kennedy, Yellow Album, and Young Nation.

Even though Kennedy is an independent artist, he has managed to work alongside a lot of mainstream artists, and a large part of his success can be attributed to his successful mixtapes. The West coast rapper’s From the Westside with Love mixtape gained over 100,000 downloads online in 2010. The success of the project promoted Kennedy to release three music videos for the songs “Locals Only,” “The 4 Heartbeats,” and “1997.” Last year, the rapper was featured on DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers album on the song “Throw Your Hood Up” by DJ Mustard (also featuring Royce and RJ). Kennedy made a guest appearance on Ty Dolla Sign’s Sign Language (2014) mixtape for the recreation of Drake’s “Lord Knows” (featuring Rick Ross) song. In the last few years, the rapper has also worked alongside Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, and YG.
