Radiohead: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Radiohead is undoubtedly one of the most influential bands of the past twenty years. Its members have gone on to do great things outside of the band, even as Radiohead continues to tour and put out new music. Let’s find out a little more about the band here in part one of our list.

Number Fifteen: When Radiohead Came Out, the Band Was Marketed as Part of the Slacker Generation

Advertisements for the band when they first came out with their debut album Pablo Honey even made references to Beavis & Butthead. This might seem ridiculous now, but the music on their debut record does sound much different than most of their music since that time.

Number Fourteen: They’ve Done Some Strange Covers

Radiohead is often considered to be a fairly self-serious band, but they’ve done some unusual, unexpected covers of songs. Two examples: Oasis’s Wonderwall and Glen Campbell’s Rhinestone Cowboy.

Number Thirteen: The Band Members Met While Attending an All Boys School

The school was in Oxfordshire, England, which is the county where the band members all call home. The county is also home to the internationally known university of Oxford (and Oxford also happens to be the main city in the area).

Number Twelve: Thom Yorke Doesn’t Like the Sound of His Own Voice

He thinks it sounds too pretty and polite, and he has also said that sometimes he wishes he could deliver more anger with it.

Number Eleven: Only One Member of the Band is a Classically Trained Musician

It’s guitarist Johnny Greenwood. He has since branched out and created classical music on his own. He has even scored a few high-profile films, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood and The Master.

Number Ten: They Played Their First Show a Week After Their First Rehearsal Together

At least, it was a week after the first rehearsal with guitarist Johnny Greenwood. The show took place at the Jericho Tavern in Oxford, back when the band went by the name On A Friday. That’s it for part one of the list but check back for more Radiohead info soon.
