Ahmor Thompsons, aka Questlove, has announced plans to executive produce a new show for VH1 entitled SoundClash. Veteran DJ Diplo will host the series and serve as MC for the various battles and creations,

The show is designed as a battle of the bands type contest with premier musicians competing alongside up and coming talent. The first episode will feature Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, and Ed Sheeran covering each others songs and engaging in collaborations while upstart electro-pop band London Grammar will be involved in the process. Australian group Sia and Grouplove will combine for the following episode on July 30th. Other acts have yet to be announced though considering Questlove’s influence it shouldn’t be too hard to book popular artists.

The Philadelphia born drummer began his career in 1993 when he joined with the emerging band The Roots. A few years later the band released Things Fall Apart which was met with enthusiastic reviews and platinum level sales. Questlove soon became a celebrity drummer through his collaborations with John Mayer, Christinia Aguliera, Iggy Pop, and Madonna. Beginning in 2009 the Roots became the in-house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, eventually following the talk show host to play for him on The Tonight Show.

The show is set to premier Wednesday July 23rd on VH1. If all goes well, SoundClash will be a regular Wednesday viewing every following week.
