Number Eight: “When Doves Cry” Was a Big Deal. The single was a big deal because it is widely considered to be the first major R&B hit that does not include a bass line.
Number Seven: He Like Some Weird Food Combinations. According to the director of Purple Rain, Prince liked to eat spaghetti and drink orange juice while the film was being made.
Number Six: He Forced a Co-Star to Keep Her Marriage Secret. Prince wanted the public to think that he may be romantically involved with his Purple Rain co-star Apollonia, so he made her keep her marriage a secret.
Number Five: He Has a Female Alter Ego. Prince’s female alter ego is named Camille, and he used the alternative identity while working on Sign O the Times. He used it when recording “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” and he would achieve the sound by slowing down the tape while singing in his normal register, then speeding it back up in the playback.
Number Four: He Did Not Like The Black Album. Prince wanted The Black Album to be recalled just one week before its release date in 1987. He even hid a message in the video for “Alphabet Street” that appears on the screen before the first chorus and says, “Don’t buy the Black Album. I’m sorry.”
Number Three: He Played for Madonna. Prince played guitar for Madonna’s song, “Like a Prayer.” However, he was not officially credited, so many people do not know this.
Number Two: He First Saw His Wife on a Video. Prince first saw his future wife, Mayte Garcia, on a tape she sent to him. Garcia’s mother insisted that her daughter send videos of her belly-dancing to Prince. The two then began a long-distance courtship, and Prince hoped to seduce her when she turned 18.
Number One: He Likes New Girl. Prince is a big fan of the show, which stars Zooey Deschanel. He has said that he only watches that and the news.
