Those who were in care at the Monash Children’s Hospital in Melbourne suffered a jarring shock to the senses this past Friday. Luckily for them it was the good kind.

Academy award winning actress Nicole Kidman and Country Superstar Keith Urban made a stop to the Hospital in order to perform and sing inspirational music to patients. The high profile power couple spent most of their time talking one on one with the young patients and taking personal photos with many of them. For added effect Urban began playing “Amazing Grace” his guitar in the reception while his wife sang with him. Footage of the impromptu duet can be found on Youtube.

This is the latest Hospital appearance for Kidman, who has made it a point in her career to make such charitable appearances. “It’s one of the most important things I do,” Kidman told the Herald Sun “I have been doing it since I became well known in the movie industry. Kidman and her husband were in Melbourne this weekend for the Swisse Celebrate Life Ball, an annual fundraiser that supports Monash Hospital and Sydney’s Children’s Hospital. “It’s deeply sad,” she says. “But events like the Swisse Celebrate Life Ball ensure that we are able to give to families in need. Even if it is just listening and hugging and showing support, then it’s worth it.”

Kidman, a native of Australia, burst onto the Hollywood scene in 1990’s Days of Thunder and has since grown into one of the a-list celebrities of Hollywood. She met fellow Australian (though New Zealand born) Keith Urban at the 2005 G’day LA event that honors Australians in entertainment. A year and a half later the two were married. In addition to being a Children’s health advocate, Kidman also served as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women and testified before the US House of Representatives in support of the International Violence Against Women Act.

Urban has been one of Country’s leading men ever since his 1999 self titled debut. His 2002 follow up Golden Road was named the biggest Country Record of the decade by Billboard Magazine. Ever since meeting Kidman, Urban has been by her side throughout all philanthropic endeavors.
