Pharrell to Be Honored with Fashion Icon Award

Pharrell Williams will be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America with the Fashion Icon Award. The event will take place on June 1st at the Lincoln Center. “If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell. Not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I can’t imagine anyone not seduced by him,” president of the Council of Fashion Designers, Diane von Furstenberg, said in a statement. The past winners of the Fashion Icon Award include Iman, Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman, and Rihanna (who was last year’s recipient).

Williams‘ fashion sense has been admired by his peers and fans for years. The singer-producer once said that fashion is all about individuality. Williams stated that he never followed trends, his style was always based on what represented him as an individual, rather than what was considered cool or trendy. In 2005, Williams founded his Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream clothing lines with Nigo. The clothes became a very popular brand amongst young people in America and abroad, and the line had a huge influence on pop and hip-hop culture.

Last year, the singer signed a deal with Adidas, which enabled him to design sneakers and apparel. Williams’ also released hand-painted Stan Smith Adidas sneakers, which are a limited edition collection. The Grammy-winning producer stated that creating art in the fashion world, is another outlet that allows his to expresses himself. Besides designing clothes and shoes, Williams has also designed eyeglasses and jewelry for Louis Vuitton.

Earlier this year, the hat that Williams wore at the Grammy Awards last year was put on display at the Grammy Museum. The hat exhibit was on display from January 15th through March 15th. The famous head gear caused quite a stir last year, and became a huge fashion statement in pop culture. The hat was part of the museum’s Grammy Effect showcase this year. The Arby’s fast food chain purchased the hat for over $40,000 dollars in 2014, and the proceeds went to the One Hand to Another Charity. Arby’s decided to buy the item, after many people joked that Pharrell Williams’ hat resembled their company’s logo.
