Pharrell Williams spoke to New York students on International Day of Happiness at the United Nations Headquarters. “I’m staring at the future right now. Hello to the future. Music brought me happiness, and when you find out what makes you happy, it can be something as detailed as a long-term goal or it can be something as simple as the way I feel when my son smiles,” Williams stated (via The Hollywood Reporter). He added,”You should know that happiness is your birthright.”
The singer was there to discuss climate change, for which he has partnered with the UN Foundation in order to launch the “Happy Party.” The online campaign’s goal is to have supporters sign the Live Nation Petition, which encourages global leaders to make climate change a priority at the December summit. “We have to move from climate change to climate action. We’re in trouble but we can change,” Williams told the audience.
While Williams has a lot of work to do in regards to his Live Nation Project, the singer has a lot to be happy about. The Grammy-winning artist will be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America with the Fashion Icon Award. The ceremony will take place on June 1st at the Lincoln Center. Williams has had his hands in a number of fashion projects including his Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream clothing lines with Nigo.
Billionaire Boys Club was created in 2005. By the year 2012, the clothing line had reached over $30 million dollars in sales. The clothing line has an official store in Japan, but Billionaire Boys Club stores can also be found in North America, Europe, the UK, the Middle East, and Asia. Williams also designs sneakers and apparel for Adidas. Williams accredits his fashion sense to not being afraid to be as creative as possible. The singer never follows trends, he just remains true to who he is as an individual. The singer-producer released ten limited edition hand-painted (by Pharrell Williams) Adidas sneakers last year. The customized Stan Smith shoes went on sale last Spring, and they sold out within minutes. All of the proceeds from the sneakers went to Pharrell Williams’ From One Hand To Another charity.
