Petition Aims to Cancel DJ Paris Hilton Gig

Paris Hilton joins the list of performers who are part of a petition aiming to get them removed from a music festival. As previously reported, there is a petition aiming to get Kanye West removed from his Glastonbury Festival appearance. There is also a petition that is trying to get R. Kelly removed from the Free Press Summer Fest 2015. It was recently announced that DJ Paris Hilton is scheduled to perform at the Summerfest in Milwaukee, which will run from June 28th through the 30th.

While the likes of Florida Georgia Line, Kendrick Lamar, and Zac Brown Band have been revealed as performers at Summerfest, many people couldn’t get over seeing DJ Paris Hilton listed in the artist lineup. “This is a middle finger to anyone who paid to go to this festival. You claim to be one of the premier festivals in America and then you go ahead and hire someone like Paris Hilton,” the online petition reads. It continues,”She is a disgrace to dance music and is a perfect example of what spoiled celebrities do when they’re bored.” The petition also asked Paris Hilton to remove herself from Summerfest, if the festival organizers don’t remover her. So far, the Hilton petition has drawn over 4,000 signatures.

The people who are aiming to get R. Kelly removed from Summer Fest 2015 in Houston is a non-profit organization called Girls Rock Camp Houston. The non-profit organization wrote a letter to the festival organizers, and they have an online petition as well. Girls Rock Camp believes the festival organizers are sending the wrong message to young women, by allowing R. Kelly to be a part of Summer Fest. The R&B singer was indicted in Chicago on twenty-one counts of child pornography almost thirteen years ago (those charges were later reduced to 14 counts). In 2008, R. Kelly was found not guilty of all the sexual charges. Despite the not guilty verdict, the singer-songwriter has never been able to fully escape the sexual predator allegations.

Last year, R. Kelly was supposed to perform at the Fashion Meets Music Festival in Ohio. After facing so much backlash from the public, the R&B singer decided not to perform at the festival. Some media reports stated that R. Kelly was actually removed from the Fashion Meets Music event by the festival’s organizers. The Summer Fest organizers have not decided whether they will remove R. Kelly from their artist lineup. The festival will take place in Houston (TX) on June 6th and 7th. R. Kelly recently performed at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival that took place in Miami, Florida last week.
