PETA Verbally Attacks Chris Brown and Girlfriend

It seems as though Chris Brown‘s outfit during the Tuesday leg of New York Fashion Week, was a poor choice. After donning matching furs with his on and off again girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, the couple were criticized by PETA. In a statement provided to Gossip Cop, PETA said “There are few things more out of touch than draping yourself in the skin of animals who were beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their fur.” PETA goes on to say “Pink’s New York Fashion Week billboard shows true beauty comes from kindness – Chris Brown’s furs are just more of the same from him: ugly violence.” The 25 year old who is no stranger to critics has yet to respond.

Brown rose to fame with his 2005 self-titled debut album and has since been the subject of many controversies. The album rose to number two on the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified double platinum. His first single, “Run It!” put Brown as the first male artist since 1997 to have a debut single top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Three more singles off the album also made it into the top 20.

His second studio album, Exclusive, was released in 2007 and debuted number four on the Billboard 200 chart. “Kiss Kiss” featuring T-Pain was the album’s second single and reached number one on Billboard Hot 100 chart. His third single off the album also topped the charts, reaching number two on Billboard Hot 100. To date, the album has sold more than one and a half million copies. 2009’s Graffiti had moderate success with both his first and second single ranking on the Billboard Hot 100, but was met with generally negative reviews.

Brown’s 2011 Grammy Award winning album F.A.M.E. debuted number one on Billboard 200, giving him his first number one album in the U.S. “Yeah 3x” reached the top ten in eleven countries while his second single “Look at Me Now” reached number one in the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

In addition to six albums, Brown has collaborated with several artists, spawning top ten hits such as, “No Air,” “Shawty Get Loose,” and “Shorty Like Mine,” and appeared in both film and television roles such as the O.C., Stomp the Yard, Battle of the Year, and This Christmas.

In early 2009 Brown turned himself in to the Los Angeles’ Police Department for an argument with then-girlfriend, Rihanna, which escalated into physical violence. Due to this incident, several commercials featuring him were suspended, and many radio stations pulled his music. On June 22, 2009 Brown pleaded guilty and accepted a plea deal of community service, along with five years probation, and domestic violence counseling.

On February 12th, Chris Brown and Tyga began their Between the Sheets tour, with Trey Songz joining some of the dates. Tyga and Brown’s collaborative album, Fan of a Fan: The Album, is due out February 24th and was produced by DJ Mustard, Nic Nac, Drumma Boy, and more.
