The Hollywood Vampires consisting of Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), is reportedly working with Paul McCartney. The supergroup is working on their debut album, which will feature the legendary McCartney. The Hollywood Vampires have been working on music since last year, and Perry spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the focus for the project. “The record is dedicated to all the friends we’ve lost to drugs and alcohol over the years and getting people to come in and cover the songs their friends wrote,” Perry told Rolling Stone.
The rocker said that McCartney contributed a new version of “Come and Get It,” which was a song he wrote and produced for Badfinger. The Beatles legend is dedicating the song to Pete Ham and Tom Evans, the two members of Badfinger who committed suicide. McCartney hasn’t played “Come and Get It” since 1969, but Perry said the legendary rocker played the song effortlessly. “He didn’t have any cheat sheets. It was like he had been playing it his whole life,” Perry told the magazine. He continued, “Me and Alice and Johhny were standing there and looking at each other and I tell you, if there’s any ego-lever in a room, it’s Paul. It’s doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done. If Paul’s in the room, he’s there.” Cooper and McCartney will share the lead vocal duties on the song.
The Hollywood Vampires have a show in September at Rock in Rio, and they are working on scheduling more dates in September as well. Perry said he is really looking forward to playing onstage with Depp. “Johnny’s a great guitarist. The times I have spent with him, I’ve always been impressed,” Perry said toRolling Stone. He added, “To go out and tour with him is going to be a lot of fun. Everybody’s really charged about it.”
Before joining the Hollywood Vampires, Depp played guitar on a number of projects including songs for Oasis, the Black Keys, Rock City Angels, and the New Basement Tapes. He has also performed live with Marilyn Manson, and Depp appeared on Manson’s cover of Carly Simon‘s “You’re So Vain” record. Fans of the actor should not worry about Depp quitting his acting career any time soon. Depp said music has always been a part of his life, and he’s never had an issue separating the two entities.
