This game has been enchanting children and adults alike since its development, and it deserves a little recognition for its nostalgia. Read on to find out what you really want to know, the juiciest five facts you didn’t know about Pac-Man!
Number Five: The Defense. Pac-Man became such a renowned game that its name even became a widely used term to refer to business ploys. When a company was foreseen to be taken over by another company, yet actually took over the “attacking” company, they called it the Pac-Man defense. The term is said to be derived from the victim-becomes-threat concept of Pac-Man when he gnaws on his power cookies.
Number Four: The Design. The point of having ghosts chase around the Pac-Man was initially to involve the concept of both good and bad characters. The bright colors and “cute” demeanor of the game was incorporated in order to appeal to the female audience, who normally did not partake in video games.
Number Three: The Monsters. Though the antagonists in the game are depicted clearly as ghosts, they were simply known as “monsters” for the longest time. As we mentioned earlier, each of these “monsters” have unique personality traits. This concept was included to keep things interesting, and incorporate the option of strategy. Inky is usually rather stubborn, Blinky enjoys the thrill of the chase, Pinky is the clever ambusher, and Clyde isn’t too bright.
Number Two: The World Record. Because of the game’s outstanding reputation, Guinness World Records named Pac-Man to be the “Most Recognized Video Game Character” in 2010. The iconic, yellow star is recognized by an estimated 94% of America.
Number One: Another World Record. In addition to the aforementioned record, the creators also received another prestige in 2005. In this year, Guinness World Records referred to Pac-Man as the “Most Successful Coin-Operated Game”. With such extensive recognition and wild success, it is difficult to imagine this game as anything but record-breaking!
