Nick Jonas just announced on social media that he will host Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards next month. The show will officially air on Nickelodeon on March 28th. The past celebrity hosts of the award’s show include Will Smith, Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, Josh Duhamel, and Jack Black. Jonas recently sat down with Rolling Stone magazine to discuss a number of things, which included his infamous underwear advertisement. The photo caused quite a frenzy online, mainly because the singer grabbed his private area in the photo. “I had no idea [the photo would become such a big deal]. It just kind of happened, and now I have a lot of unexpected new fans. It was pretty interesting to watch it all unfold and travel in the way it did,” Jonas told Rolling Stone magazine.
The singer also plays a gay martial artist on the television show Kingdom. The magazine asked him about how the success of the show has made him a “gay icon.” “I don’t know if I’d necessarily call myself a gay icon. But my goal in the last year was to expand and grow as a person and an artist, and embracing my gay fans was a priority,” Jonas said. He added,”Some of my gay friends have thanked me for that, and that’s a really good feeling.”
The singer said he was a little worried he would face backlash from his old fans, who still see him as the “squeaky clean” Jonas brother. It was highly-publicized that he was a virgin, although the singer revealed he was no longer a virgin last year. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little fearful [I would receive backlash]. But you have to be willing to say, ‘I know I’m pushing myself, and if not everybody comes with me, that’s okay,'” the singer told Rolling Stone. He added, “I’m just thankful that a lot of them [my fans] did.”
During the interview, the singer also admitted he smoked weed before. “Uh, I never smoked weed with any of my fellow Disney stars. I smoked weed elsewhere,” Jonas said jokingly. In the end, Jonas’ fans should appreciate and respect the singer’s honesty, and hopefully they will realize he is not a kid anymore. Nick Jonas is currently on tour with Iggy Azalea on her Great Escape Tour. The tour will resume on April 14th in Fresno, California.
