NFL: Jermaine Gresham Signs Deal with Arizona

Tight end Jermaine Gresham has reached a deal with the Arizona Cardinals. The two-time Pro Bowler has signed a one-year deal with the team, but the financial terms have not been made public. Gresham spent the last five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, after being drafted by the club in 2010. His career numbers include 280 receptions, 2,722 receiving yards, and 24 touchdowns. Last season, the tight end caught 62 passes and five touchdowns. Gresham joins an Arizona Cardinals roster that includes Carson Palmer (Quarterback), Larry Fitzgerald (Wide Receiver), Tyrann Mathieu (Safety), and Patrick Peterson (Cornerback).

The NFL season will begin on September 10th, and there are still quite a bit of notable free agents still on the market. Reggie Wayne, Steven Jackson, Wes Welker, Dwight Freeney, Chris Johnson, Michael Vick, Pierre Thomas, Knowshon Moreno, and  Santonio Holmes still have not signed a deal during this off-season. Quarterback Michael Vick recently posted a video online in order to showcase that he still has what it takes to compete in the NFL. While there is very little doubt Vick won’t be on roster come opening day, the real question is where will be the best fit for the quarterback. His last season on the New York Jets squad was disastrous, and so Vick has a lot to prove on the field this year. Vicks’ career statistics include 22,093 passing yards, 6,010 passing yards, 131 touchdowns, and 87 interceptions.

Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne may not be signed yet, but there are several teams that could use the receiver. The former Indianapolis Colts legend is arguably the best receiver of his time. He has over 14,000 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns, which places him with iconic receivers such as Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, and Terell Owens. Some teams that should strongly consider adding Wayne to their roster include the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers, and Carolina Panthers. The 36-year old is obviously not the same player who was drafted back in 2001, but Wayne proved in 2014 that he can still put up some quality numbers. Last season, the receiver grabbed 64 receptions for 779 yards and 2 touchdowns. If Wayne is not signed by September, there is a strong possibility he will retire.
