‘New Music Seminar’ Taking Place This Month

The New Music Seminar will take place in New York (NY) this year. The music conference and festival will be held from June 21st through the 23rd. Founded by Tom Silverman (Tommy Boy Entertainment CEO), the event attracts innovators, forward-thinkers, and visionaries in the music business. The New Music Seminar boastfully states it is “the only mission-driven music conference focusing on the future of music, new ways of effectively breaking artists, and solutions for the industry as a whole.” In the past, the conference has helped launched the careers of Madonna, Run DMC, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins.

Some of this year’s panelist include Lyor Cohen (300 Entertainment Co-Founder), Chris Atlas (Def Jam EVP), Daniel Glass (Glassnote Founder), and Derrick Aroh (RCA Records A&R). Macklemore, Schoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Thee Oh Sees, and Joey Bada$$ are some of the artists who were named to New Music Seminar‘s “Artists on the Verge” list in the past. The 2015 “Artist on the Verge” list includes All Get Out, Bizzy Crook, Chaos Chaos, Dinner and a Suite, Great Caesar, Julia Weldon, Kehlani, LEAGUES, Mansions on the Moon, and Rome Fortune. The full artist list can be viewed on the New Music Seminar website.

Tidal executive, Vania Schlogel, will also take part in the New Music Seminar as a guest on the panel. It was just revealed that Drake was going to join Tidal as a co-owner, but he changed his mind two days before the company’s relaunch in March. It appears the Toronto rapper was more of an “Apple guy”, and he officially announced his involvement with the newly formed Apple Connect. “As a kid growing up, I always wondered if my city or even my country would have somebody break into the global scene as a true superstar. The dream of being an artist like myself and connecting directly with an audience has never been more close and reachable than right now,” Drake stated.

Apple Connect is a social media service which will allow artists to promote their music through their posts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and other services, using one platform. The company’s Apple Music, a streaming radio service, will be available on June 30th. Drake was named Apple’s artist ambassador, and he will reportedly receive $19 million for his endorsement.
