Mumford and Sons are on pace to top the UK Album Chart this upcoming week. The band abandoned their country-sound for more of a rock-influenced album with their Wilder Mind project. The band’s banjo was replaced with the sounds of synthesizers and electric guitars. The lead single entitled “Believe” peaked at the top of the US Rock AirPlay chart, Number 4 on the US Hot Rock Airplay chart, and Number 20 on the Adult Top 40 chart. The single also charted in Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Australia. Last month, the band dropped their new single named “The Wolf“. Some of the other songs on the 12-track Wilder Mind album include “Tompkins Square Park,” “Snake Eyes,” “Broad-Shouldered Breasts,” “Cold Arms,” “Ditmas,” and “Only Love.”
Mumford and Sons other studio albums include Sigh No More and Babel. Sigh No More was the band’s debut album, and it was released in 2009. The project went to Number 1 in the US, New Zealand, Ireland, and Australia. Sigh No More was certified triple-platinum in the US, after selling more than three million copies. The project features the singles “Little Lion Man,” “Winter Winds,” “The Cave,” and “Roll Away Your Stone.”
The follow-up album entitled Babel was dropped three years ago. It produced five singles including “I Will Wait,” “Lover of the Light,” “Whispers in the Dark,” “Babel,” and “Hopeless Wanderer.” The Babel album also reached the top of the US albums charts, and it also went to Number 1 in the UK, Norway, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, and Canada. The project sold over 600,000 copies in its debut week, and it eventually reached double-platinum certification in the US.
For those looking to find Mumford and Sons’ albums on music streaming companies like Tidal and Spotify, you definitely won’t find any of their music on those services. The band’s frontman Marcus Mumford stated that music streaming companies like Tidal only cater to mainstream artists. Even though Tidal’s objective is to ensure artists, songwriters, and producers get paid more money for their contributions, Mumford doesn’t believe Tidal is beneficial to independent artists. “I think smaller bands should get paid more for it. Bigger bands have other ways of making money, and so I don’t think you can complain. When they say it’s artist-owned, it’s owned by those rich, wealthy artists,” Mumford explained.
