Mötley Crüe Movie Finds New Production Company

It seems the Mötley Crüe biopic has finally found a production company to develop their film. Focus Features has retained Jeff Tremaine as the film’s director, and Rick Wilkes as the film’s screenwriter. Wilkes worked with Tom Kapinos on the script and based the screenplay on the band’s 2001 memoir, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band. Focus Features will start searching for actors in the near future.

Mötley Crüe is a rock band consisting of four members, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil. The band was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee in 1981. Since 1981, the band has released nine albums and is one of the best-selling bands of all time. Mötley Crüe has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

The band’s success hasn’t come without dealing with controversy and tragedy. The band’s lead singer Vince Neil was driving home, and he was involved in a head-on collision in 1984. Unfortunately, his passenger was killed, and Neil was later charged with a DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The rocker served eighteen days in jail, and he was ordered to pay a two million dollar fine. Three years later, the band faced another tragic ordeal. Nikki Sixx suffered from a heroin overdose in 1987. He was pronounced legally dead on the way to the hospital, but Sixx was brought back to life by a medic. Sixx’s two minutes of death was the inspiration for the record “Kickstart My Heart.” The hit song was featured on the band’s first number one album, Dr. Feelgood. The album sold over six million albums in the US, and it is the band’s best selling album. Besides the single “Kickstart My Heart,” four singles were also released from the project including “Dr. Feelgood,” “Without You,” “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away),” and Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S).”

Mötley Crüe’s latest album Saint of Los Angeles was released in 2008. The album debuted at Number 4 on the Billboard 200 charts and sold 100,000 copies in its first week. Currently, the band is on the Mötley Crüe Farewell Tour. The tour began in July 2012 and is scheduled to conclude in December 2015. So far, the band’s final tour has grossed over twenty-five million dollars.
