Missy Elliott Named as ‘Bestival’ Headliner

Missy Elliott was just named as a headliner for Bestival UK, and she will hit the stage onJune 28th. The rapper joins Duran Duran, Chemical Brothers, and Underworld, who will also headline the event. “I am very excited to be performing at Bestival this year! I can’t wait to see all my fans I haven’t seen in some time- new ones and my day one fans. We are gonna have a blast together! Bring your dancing outfits and kicks,” Elliott said in a statement. This will be the rapper’s first show in the UK in nine years. “Putting the final pieces together for the world’s most intricate jigsaw puzzle that is Bestival, I’m mighty proud to announce our Sunday headliner Missy Elliott. Needing no introduction Missy is the epitome of hip-hop royalty, the first lady of party-starting club bangers and a downright legend. I cannot wait to watch the most successful female rap artist ever to Work It at Bestival 2015,” Bestival curator Rod da Bank stated.

During her career, Elliott has dropped six studio albums including Supa Dupa Fly, Da Real World, Under Construction, and The Cookbook. All of her projects have reached platinum certification, and Elliott is currently the only female rapper with six platinum albums. Her debut album Supa Dupa Fly was dropped in 1997, and it features guest appearances by the late Aaliyah, Ginuwine, and Busta Rhymes. Four songs were produced from the project including “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Sock It 2 Me,” “Beep Me 911,” and “Hit Em wit da Hee.” Under Construction, which sold over two million copies, was released in 2002. The album is led by the hit singles “Work It,” “Gossip Folks,” “Back in the Day,” and “Pussycat,” and it peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Elliott has sold over thirty million albums worldwide, and she has won five Grammy Awards. Some of her five wins include Best Rap Solo Performance for “Get Ur Freak On,” Best Female Rap Solo Performance for “Work It,” and her production work won Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for “Lady Marmalade” (Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya, and Pink). As a music producer, Elliott has worked with Beyonce, the late Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, and Ciara. Elliott made her return to the music industry (following a ten-year hiatus) with a surprise performance at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show with Katy Perry. The superstar also revealed she is working on a new project. She has been in the recording studio with longtime collaborator Timbaland and Pharrell Williams.
